How to keep your pc tuned up, optimized, clean and error free.

I dislike seeing people pay money to get their PC tuned up or cleaned for them. It pains alot especially because this can be done  in the comfort a room.

in lieu of this, I've compiled a few practical tips for optimizing your pc and improving its performance by using windows utilities and a few programs that can be downloaded for free. And the good news is that you can do it yourself.

1. Clean out the junks (Cookies and cache) left behind by your browsers. To do this, you can use the Disk Cleanup utility included on the Windows systems, or download a freeware program such as CCleaner to do it for you. In Linux you can use Kleansweep.

2. Scan and remove viruses on your PC. There are lots of tools available to do this so your options here are not limited. I recommend Avast Anti Virus i also recommend you to back it up with smadav.

3. Clean your registry monthly to keep your computer running smoothly. You need a software to perform this task. You can download RegClean Pro. It cleans your registry and you can also set it to automatically scan and fix errors in your registry during periods of inactivity.

4. Uninstall programs you rarely use, delete old and stale movies, pictures, music. Doing this will go a long way in improving your computer's performance.

 5. Utilize the msconfig command in the RUN command prompt to open up a window that will allow you to unselect programs you don’t want to start up automatically whenever you boot your pc. This can up your start up and boot down times a lot.

 6. Use your computers disk management systems. For Windows, select Performance and Maintenance and then choose "Rearrange items on your hard disk..." and "Free up space on your hard disk." For Mac, go to the Applications Folder, select Utilities Folder then launch Disk Utility.

7. Defragment your hard disk atleast twice a month. Doing this helps consolidates fragmented files on your hard disk to improve your system performance. To do this go to windows à all programs à accessories à system tools à disk defragmente.

 8. Scan and remove unwanted junks from your pc by using the disk cleanup option which can be found in system tools. (Windows).

9. Always remember to empty your recycle bin whenever junks are in it.

10. and lastly, always remember to Update your Windows every once in a while (that's if its not already set to automatic update).

Adhering to  the tips above will go a long way in making your pc run fast and smoother, without breaking down.
