How to restore your system to an earlier time
System
restore is a very valuable system tool in our computer. When you do a system
restore, windows automatically recommends the most recent restore
point created before a significant change in your system (mostly software).
thereby fixing a problem that might be making your computer run
slowly.
- Your computer starts misbehaving immediately after installing a new program.
- Your keyboard/mouse pad isn’t in perfect working condition.
- A program you use often just stopped working all of a sudden.
- And any other minor problem your computer encounters
BEFORE YOU RESTORE YOUR COMPUTER
Before you restore your computer to an earlier time you
need to make sure that;
- You uninstall the last program you installed before your computer started misbehaving.
- Save any open files and close all programs.
- You know what you are about to do.
HOW TO USE SYSTEM RESTORE
Windows 7
To
launch system restore from the Start button menu, goto
- All Programs ----> Accessories -----> System Tools -----> System Restore. Open it. The restore point is set by default to 'recommended restore' by windows (it is advised you don’t tamper with it). But if you must, select the next option 'choose a different restore point'.
- Now Click the Next button. If you selected the first option ‘recommended restore’ just go ahead and click finish. But if you chose the second option “choose a different restore’ you will need to select the restore point you want followed by next and then finish.
- Next a dialogue box will pop out asking if you want to continue with system restore, Click Yes (if you still havent changed your mind, click No if you dont want to go through with it) to apply your settings (mind you once it starts do not attempt to end it).
- After it applies your new settings, it restarts your computer using those earlier settings that worked fine.
Note:
When you restore to an older restore point, any software updates installed
would be removed. in the “between time,”
Windows 8
To access
system restore on your your windows 8 follow the below instructions.
- Right-click the bottom-left corner of any part of your screen and choose System from the menu. When it opens, click on System Protection. When the System Properties window pops out, click on System Restore. The System Restore window appears.
- Click the Next button at the System Restore window. The System Restore Point lists those restore points that are available on your system.
- select the restore point you want (You can see more available restore points by selecting the Show More Restore Points check box).
- Click Next to confirm your sels restore point. Then click Finish. After it applies your new settings, it restarts your computer using those earlier settings that worked fine.
