7 horrible Computer Maintenance mistakes people make.

Just as there is a right and wrong approach to everything in life, there is also a right and wrong approach when it comes to computer maintenance. I noticed that so many people know next to nothing when it comes to computer maintenance and the ones that claim to know actually don’t know much. With this in mind, i thought I’d share some of the biggest mistakes most people make when it comes to computer maintenance.

1.   Using more than one anti-virus. Its not advisable to use more than one antivirus on your computer. As not only will running more than one anti-virus not help, it can actually hurt your computers performance. So the best thing to do is to stick with one good anti-virus.

2.   Installing bad ‘pc optimizer’ programslearn to ignore those pc optimizer Ads that pops up all the time whenever you go online telling you your system is slow and that they have the cure for it, as 99% of these so called pc optimizer are viruses and if downloaded the best they can do is slow your computer down even further.

3.  Failing to scan your computer for viruses/malware as often as possible.  How often you are supposed to scan your system depends on how often you use the internet and how often you collect stuffs (movies, music etc) using an external storage device from other computers.
Nevertheless it is better to scan your computer atleast once a week.

4.   Running on insufficient RAM. This one is especially important for those that use their computers for heavy tasks such as AutoCAD. You can keep your computer as clean as possible by performing all sorts of maintenance, but if your computer is not equipped or capable of performing the task you use them for. Then no amount of maintenance will fix it. The only option here is to upgrade.

5.   Using an ineffective anti-virus. Most of the anti viruses online are as blind as a bat and are not worth installing on your computer. Give your computer the protection it needs. Get a good antivirus. And always endeavour to scan your system as often as possible

6.   Cleaning your computer with the wrong liquids. Even I was guilty of this one when i was a teenager i cleaned my PC with soapy water and it damaged my keyboard. That’s when I learnt that not all liquids can be used to clean a pc. For example, using bleach, water, hydrogen peroxide etc to clean any part of your pc whether external or internal can damage something. To clean your pc, Stick with alcohol or methylated spirit and a very clean handkerchief.

7.   Using a wrong implement to blow out dust from your system.   having dust in your pc causes all kinds of problems including overheating etc, so It is very important to keep dust out of your computer. But how the dust is blown out is important too.
Heavy-duty air compressors can damage various components and cause them to break. So its best to a can of spray air. As it is one of the safest ways to keep the interior of your computer clean.

I hope this helps.
